I just reread Jack 's tale of "Little Smacko" for the first time in years and just can't get over the complex task he set for himself in anthropomorphising fishing boats !!
The complexity of each panel is amazing -- he never shortcutted on the amount of drawing and detail needed to make a talking boat believable!
Joel -- did your dad have a fascination with the fishing boats when you lived down by the shore? I'm thinking there must be a good reason why he would attempt such intricate designs and novel subjects when he was trying to work fast to compensate for the low page rates he was paid.
Do you have any recollection of what might have led to this story?
Amazing work!! As always!
